works fine on SLE15 and Tumbleweed (on Tumbleweed only occurs
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1098924, but the email is sent
correctly). Am I doing something different from you? I will test it on VM with
SLE12SP3 soon.

The incorrect parsing of arguments could be some old unreported bug. I will
take a look but I think this is not important right now.
