With the update to Matplotlib 1.5 spyder cannot connect to the ipython kernel in version 2.3.7 any more. Please upgrade to version 2.3.8. See https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/issues/2793 for more explanation. This issue has been fixed in the new version of spyder. Thanks.
