It seems that kactivitymanagerd is running

I don't use kactivity . Maybe under the hood it is used .

Based on the release notes , some packages will be removed, plasma will be
upgraded .  I will take the risk to upgrade to 15.2 and hope for the best ...
i.e. getting the plasma working . 

I will keep you posted with the results of the upgrade .
