Xorg.0.log from boot to XDM on host big31
On cold boot, first instance of kdm to show in journal is @20:39:33. Last
instance comes @20:40:02. That's 29 seconds.
After reboot after switch from kdm3 to xdm as default-displaymanager, first xdm
instance in journal is @20:48:57, and last @20:48:58, 1 second. Observed delay
on switch from tty1 to tty7 is typical of a 15 year old PC, certainly
tolerable. Of course, with XDM, there is no use of a mouse, and everything
about logging in is keyboard-only, no way to select an existing user by
pointing.
To be clear in case I wasn't already, the kdm3 failure only happens on slower
PCs.
