Ah, thank you for looking this up. I couldn't get xfsettings to produce a clipboard manager. (There is no xfce-settings-helper in the xfce4-settings package). OTOH, parcellite seems like a suitable replacement for clipman and it does not lead to the annoying issue with qt applications that is the subject of this bz. Since upstream is aware of the problem and has apparently decided not to fix it (https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6521#c24), I suggest closing this bug. Thank you for your help.
