OK, I have found it. Seems I was fooled by something when I first looked what happened when I quit programs. It *is* one of my applications, to be exact it is gkrellm2, or rather some of the plugins: I had re-used the plugins compiled on my Leap computer, as gkrellm is the same version on both. As soon as I load one of those plugins, slab usage starts to increase (it was actually the 10Hz increase rate that made me suspicious, as this is the display rate of the monitors). Running the plain gkrellm2 of Tumbleweed without any plugins definitely has no issues at all. I'll re-get the sources of the plugins and re-compile them, and expect this to solve the problem. In any case it is not a Tumbleweed-bug, so I guess it can be closed. Sorry for the wrong alarm (but at least I have learned quite something about kernel tracing, which is highly appreciated!)
