I am sorry, but I now think that I have wasted your time.  I do not use LIRC
and presume it is included in a default pattern.  After lirc-core failed to
unpack during ���zypper dup��� to RC1, I first tried two manually selected mirrors
(GWDG.de and mobile-central.org) before deleting all LIRC packages using YaST
(ncurses) SW Manager and the ���Clean UP��� options.

The unpack failure occurred after download (no signature warning) and prior to
installation.

Prompted by your request I tried re-installing lirc-core and it installed
flawlessly:
