Note that dragon is KF5 based since a while, and therefore only can use
phonon4qt5-backend-vlc, the KDE4 phonon-backend-vlc is irrelevant.

Oh, and neither dragon nor phonon looks for any vlc plugins at all.
It uses libvlc(core), and that would look for the plugins.
Maybe you have some self-compiled libvlc(core) in /usr/local/lib(64) or
similar?

It definitely works fine here *without* such a symlink.
