I encounter a very similar problem on a Lenovo T460s with KDE running Leap
42.2. In my case, running multiple monitors seems to make the problem occur
more frequently. Both the laptop monitor and second display turn blank before
freezing, and it is not possible to change to a separate console using
CTRL+ALT+F1. A power cycle is required to make the computer responsive.
