OOps correction: I've managed to get my hands on Western Digital WD10EADS-65M280 which is a 1gb Caviar green which does not support APM. Testing the sytem with this drive attached, suspend to ram resume was successful so lack of APM does not appear to be a universal factor with WD drives. Stumped for my next move. the correction was "does NOT appear"
