I sorted out my issue. It turned out to be my fontconfig settings. The font I used for gtk3 is 'Bitstream Vera Sans Roman 10' and I set a strong binding in fontconfig to bind the font with 'cwTeXHeiBold' for the Traditional Chinese characters. Once I replaced 'cwTeXHeiBold' with 'Noto Sans TC', LO impress became responsive again. My conclusions: 1. The gtk-style fixes are already in Tumbleweed. Those who had issue with gtk3 VCL could try it now. 2. I'll update my fontconfig settings. My current settings are something I used 10 years ago so it's time to update it.
