No, I did not. I have never heard of that being necessary. I guess that's the
issue then, but it needs to be much more obvious, like a label in the UI!
I did ask the internet and could only find one page about USB problems on
openSUSE and it said something along the lines of "it just does not work"...

Hm, what about a new "virtualbox-host-usb" package with those rules enabled?
The package's description could be "Warning: This may be a security issue".
