If the installer finds a home directory it asks if you want to back it up.  If
you reply no the installer quits.  If you reply yes the installer later will
ask if you want to restore it.  Again if you reply no the installer quits. If
you reply yes the install restores something that looks like part of a home
directory but unusable. Had to clean the disk first and revert to an older
version of the installer as I also experienced the emergency mode problem, as
well as the can't find the encrypted partition problems described in other bug
reports.
