The patch worked but only the first time plasma was run. Thanks for reopening
it.

The problem was that when the screen resolution was changed, plasma didn't even
try to choose a new background image. I've fixed this with two patches, one in
kpackage (https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/433784) and one in
plasma5-workspace (https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/433788). I've also
submitted those to upstream (the kpackage patch was already accepted and pushed
to master,
