There is an upstream discussion and patch at: http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=147669851906489&w=2 I will push the fix as a workaround for now. This was reported also by an opensuse user: kernel-pae-4.9.0-1.1.g8c92422 can't on my i686/VIA C7-D little server. Tried kernel-pae-4.9-rc8, before but same issue. kernel-pae-4.8.14-1.1.gab53e9a.i686.rpm works like a charm. openSUSE KERNEL:stable 4.9.0 kernel-pae-4.9.0-1.1.g8c92422.i686.rpm [ 3.33xxxx] random: systemd: uninitialized urandom read (16 bytes read) [ 3.412xxx] sg: disagrees about version of symbol __put_user_4 [ 3.412xxx] sg: Unknow symbol __put_user_4 (err -22) [ 3.412xxx] sg: disagrees about version of symbol mcount [ 3.412xxx] sg: Unknow symbol mcount (err -22) [ 3.412xxx] sg: disagrees about version of symbol ___preempt_schedule [ 3.412xxx] sg: Unknow symbol ___preempt_schedule (err -22) [ 3.412xxx] sg: disagrees about version of symbol __get_user_4 [ 3.412xxx] sg: Unknow symbol __get_user_4 (err -22) This seems to related (new binutils): Unable to boot linux-next build http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/linux/kernel/2523102 http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=147647607731657&w=2 https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/10/27/173 https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/10/30/44
