Attempting to run john-1.9.0-7.9.x86_64 on a venerable AMD Phenom II shows: "Sorry, AVX is required for this build" I think AVX support should be either optional in or at least a package or binary for older platforms would be nice. Especially because an installed john is run by the scripts of the seccheck package. Note: this is an _old_ bug, there for years but it resurfaced recently which made to finally create this bugreport. The script which comments out seccheck's check_guessable_passwords() broke at some point (there's no option to suppress a john scan, afaict).
