Created attachment 851587 [details]
Xorg.0.log.old; dmesg; journalctl -b

Happens in Intel Kaby Lake too:
# lspci -nnk | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 630
[8086:5912] (rev 04)
# inxi -Sy | grep istro
  Distro: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20210805
Again, no automatic restart was attempted. I must run systemctl restart xdm to
get the greeter open. 30 of these are in dmesg:
[ 5.131236] i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm:intel_hdmi_set_edid [i915]] HDMI GMBUS
EDID read failed, retry using GPIO bit-banging
[ 143.509712] i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm:intel_hdmi_set_edid [i915]] HDMI GMBUS
EDID read failed, retry using GPIO bit-banging
That made me think maybe hardware issue, so I connected a different display,
but no joy.
