Many thanks for the information provided.
I'll study it to see what I can do for sorting out the problem with my scanner.

There are a few things that puzzle me:
(1) As already said, when I connect the very same All-In-One device with the
very same USB cable to my old notebook that runs Leap15.3 scanning works
perfectly fine.
Both, my old notebook and my new notebook run HPLIP 3.21.10.

(2) After I initially installed Tumbleweed on my new notebook sometime in
2022-03, scanning was working perfectly fine. Later, after running 

$> sudo zypper refresh && sudo zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change

(per today: VERSION_ID="20220428") scanning stopped working.

Does any of this ring any bell with anyone out there?
