remember, remember (and what a good thing there are comments)

having it called vlc-noX-lang makes appstream no longer see VLC is 'localized'
in Software Centers; so renaming it is not going to be a good idea

vlc-noX already commends vlc-lang; so that part is correct too

The main issue, imho, is that vlc-lang has a Requires on vlc = 2.2.4
