IMHO, the conflicts between -desktop and -desktop-base is correct
and you should uninstall kernel-*-base whereever you see it
to always use a proper kernel package.
The -base variant does not come with disk drivers to boot.
>From time to time I have seen constellations with kmp rpms
that pull in -base kernels on update,
which is dangerous in that it can lead to non-booting systems
apart from the confusion of the user.
> When I try to remove kernel-desktop-base from my laptop there is a conflict
What conflicts here?
Could be a problem with the dependencies of another package
stating that it wants one exact kernel version...
