So I installed OpenSUSE Leap 42.1. Under Xorg everything looks like I expect, from what I can tell, after running "sudo zypper install gnome-shell-wayland", I still can't get a gnome wayland session, according to the logs that's because gnome-shell doesn't accept the --wayland flag and exits immediately. Any info on how I can get around that is appreciated. In any case, could you describe the procedure to reproduce this with Xorg? * what you are doing (the command run etc.) * what you expect to see * what you are seeing. Unfortunately open-vm-tools does not yet support resolution switching with gnome-wayland. It requires both kernel support and support to open-vm-tools and I have as of today no information as to when or if this will be supported. That said, using the gnome-shell "displays" tool should allow you to manually select a resolution from a list of default built-in resolutions.
