What makes sense to include here has been discussed countless times.
The result is a compromise made by many stakeholders.

I can recall patterns having been removed and re-added. Please be aware that
you can still always remove some of the default patterns interactively during
the installation, or define your own set of patterns in an AutoYaST control.xml
file if you do an AutoYaST installation.
