Finally had a chance to test the latest test kernel (posted above). - installed the test kernel (rpm -i --force) - checked the boot options to confirm new kernel was being referenced and removed the "video=vesafb:mtrr:3" option - booted into the test kernel (4.12.14-lp150.165.gecc08f6-default) - X11 Performance (sddm/plasma) appears to be on par with the video option workaround. Screen paints and refreshes appear to be back to "normal" - dropped to runlevel 3 and also confirmed text mode "listings" were back up to the speed that would be expected. - double checked kernel version (uname -r) to confirm the test kernel was indeed loaded So it appears that the prepared test kernel does resolve the slow X11 and text mode issues with the AST driver. Is there anything else you would like me to test while I have this environment still in place?
