In /etc/nscd.conf there is an option allowing to restart nscd after a certain time. If I set 'paranoia yes' and 'restart-interval 600' the nscd won't restart after ten minutes. Instead there is an error in /var/log/messages: "nscd: 920 cannot open /proc/self/cmdline: Permission denied; disabling paranoia mode" The same settings in Ubuntu 14.04.3 restart the nscd like configured.
