Hi Michal,

The slowness could indicate problems in processing and updating theme menu item
widgets in responding to key stroke.

Could please help to test disabling the scrollbar

/boot/grub2/themes/openSUSE/theme.txt

# scrollbar = true
# scrollbar_width = 20
# scrollbar_thumb = "slider_*.png"

scrollbar = false

That would offload some graphics processing, and if the speed is acceptable, we
can consider a workaround by inventing new theme without scrollbar .
