Someone on the [opensuse-factory] mailing list posted a reference to this upstream bug, which notes that it is fixed in linux 4.11. As a workaround, using modesetting apparently works: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99922#c5 The reporter was able to bisect it to a specific commit - can that be reverted temporarily in the kernel?
