The default application seems corrupt or broken on the latest Tumbleweed snapshot 20160209 and KDE/Plasma. For example, png files open with GIMP instead of Gwenview, pdf opens with GIMP instead of Okular, config files without extensions open with LibreWriter instead of Kwrite/Kate, etc. It was mentioned on #opensuse-factory IRC (Freenode) channel that defaults.list is renamed to mimeapps.list, a recent change perhaps that could be the root of the issue.
