Robert, these suspicious syslog entries you mention in comment #7, do you see
them when you boot the machine? After a suspend-to-ram cycle? After a
suspend-to-disk cycle?

The complete kernel log for each of these cases would be useful.

I would also like to see the contents of /sys/bus/i2c/drivers and
/sys/bus/i2c/devices when the touchpad works, and if it is different, when it
does not.
