Well, that's basically the same patch as I attached in comment#1.

I have created packages including that patch, they are available here:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/wolfi323:/branches:/KDE:/KDE3/

Can you please try them and confirm that they work, before I submit them? (just
installing kdenetwork3-IRC is enough of course)
