There is something bad there, but I'm not sure whether this is the culprit.  I
guess it's not.  Don't you see this with 3.18.x?

I need the content of /tmp/strace.out, not the output of vlc.  (for both
working and non-working cases)
Also, if the outputs are so lengthy, don't paste!  Use attachments instead.
