One simple thing that might help would be to change the Grub menu. Now it contains the default stanza, then a word of intimidation: "Advanced" (options). Changing "Advanced" to "Other" might make users less afraid to try selecting it first before running to the forums for help. FWIW, IMO the menus were better when all stanzas were on the first Grub screen. Putting them back there might also help the timid.
