Try:

  cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern

If it responds:

  | /bin/false

then do:

  echo core >/proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern

to re-enable core dumps.

I don't know if that will be enough.

My, I installed from beta a virtual machine using gnome, and now I'm running a
"zypper dup", but besides being slow it is going well (1005/1005 packages).
Something about a libinput bug: timer event debounce, unrelated to the current
issue, I think.
