Well, try the latest digikam version from KDE:Extra first.
Is the problem fixed there maybe?

We definitely won't be able to update exiv2 to 0.26 in Leap 42.2, it's not even
handled by the KDE team, and it would require a recompile of all packages that
use it.

And not to mention that it would cause other crashes:

I'm afraid this is a WONTFIX, but we probably can provide it via KDE:Extra
(it's required by the latest digikam 5.7.0 anyway).
