I also cannot reproduce this issue reliably. 

I do see it without use of Mozilla Firefox. 

Today, I tried the following kernels versions and had lock up problems with
both:
4.4.27 (GA)
4.4.44-1.gf887322-default (OBS Kernel:openSUSE-42.2)

I have also seen the display only freeze, rather than go blank first and then
freeze.  

The Lenovo T460s with this problem has (from YaST2 hardware information):
Intel HD Graphics 520
Device Identifier (spec): 74291
