i will not be updating Lua to 5.3 for SLE 12, there are some significant
incompatible changes and the risk is too high - not as much for the distro
itself (as you say, if it works in Tumbleweed, it's probably fine) but also for
third-party apps and scripts that might live on someone's system.

I would be OK with updating for Leap 42.3, but if Ludwig prefers staying with
the SLE version, it's his call. Same for 42.2.

Given that updating to 5.3 is off the table, I think that dropping "lua52" is
the correct solution here. Also we should probably make sure that "liblua5_2 =
5.2.2" is available in the Leap 42.2 repository; that would sidestep the
problem from the original report.
If desired, I'm willing to update SLE's Lua to 5.2.4, to match the lua52
version.
