Chromium 48.0.2564.82-67.1 no longer opens in OpenSuse 13.2, although Firefox
44.0 and Konqueror 4.14.8 still open. The problem occurs in all the desktop
environments I found (Gnome, IceWM, KDE Plasma Workspace (using the main menu's
search function), LXDE, Openbox 3, and Xfce Session). The problem arose after a
pair of openSuse updates over the weekend of February 6-7, 2016, and continued
after two new openSuse updates (applied in a single process) on Feb. 8, 2016
(after the former updates testing was in all of the desktop environments but
after the latter updates testing was only in Xfce Session and Gnome). In Gnome,
I tried launching via the list of programs on the left of the workspace (my
usual way, which used to work for Chromium), via typing the browser's name (a
method that still works to open gedit), via clicking on the Chromium icon in
the list (not menu) of all the applications, and via Chromium's page's Launch
button in the Software app when opened via the Show Details menu item in the
context menu for the Chromium icon on the left side of the workspace. In one
desktop environment, Chromium's name appeared briefly, maybe for several
seconds, on the bottom of the screen, but disappeared on its own without the
browser becoming visible. According to the Software app, the last update to
Chromium was on Jan. 29, 2016, and I used Chromium almost daily, so it was
working after its last update and before any of the new updates of Feb. 6-8,
2016. I keep my system in evergreen mode, and I don't refuse Chromium updates.
I look at update details and don't recall anything mentioning Chromium but I'm
not sure.
