FYI, you can try openSUSE Leap 42.3 kernel with drm-kmp on your current system, too. For Leap 42.3, we replace the complete kernel DRM stack with 4.9-based code by drm-kmp, which is supposed to be more stable. Just get kernel-default.rpm and drm-kmp-default.rpm from OBS 42.3 distribution repo, and install both packages on top of your running system.
