Both versions work fine here.

Maybe the kernel module is just not loaded, i.e. the vboxdrv.service is not run
during boot?
What does "systemctl status vboxdrv" say?
Does starting it manually with "sudo systemctl start vboxdrv" before running
VirtualBox fix the problem?
