Alright I bring good news. I browsed around suseforums.net and found this thread: http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?s=b2ef52a99292088a7667cefcf96dbdd6&showtopic=27931 which links to http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=evolution&m=116569225526404&w=2
Basically the fix for the issue is to install the package "pam_keyring." GDM is supposed to open the keyring at login, which isn't happening which is why manually opening the keyring works. So the KDE users here may need to switch from KDM to GDM after getting pam_keyring. From the other thread it said it was only a GDM fix, but if it works with KDM let us know here.
Getting the package and restarting GDM makes Evolution remember my password.
Also there's a Gnome bug report here http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=383861
I'm on Gnome and just installed pam_keyring and restarted. However when I log into Gnome via GDM I get prompted to unlock the keyring for gaim but when I start Evolution I am still prompted for the passwords. From the looks of it, when the keyring is unlocked it is not exporting the proper environment variables.
