Well, that was interesting. Tried a re-install with no updates and was unable
to get the KDE logon screen; only a green screen lockout occurred requiring a
power reboot. Same on reboot and also after going into recovery mode and
installing updates. Seems like there's a variable bug in the installation. 

Although the GRUB2 from this install will not boot the 13.2 new version
successfully, it will boot the pre-existing 13.1 and 13.2 sessions on a couple
of other "/" partitions without any problems. I've found this was the case when
booting 13.1 from a faulty 13.2 GRUB2 but it's the first time that I've seen
that I can boot a different 13.2 session OK. 

I wonder if this differing behaviour is because with booting the
newly-installed 13.2, the GRUB2 resolution is changed directly to 1980x1050 for
the first splash screen (the black or very dark brown one that comes with 13.2)
whereas when booting to other systems, the resolution switches briefly to
720x400 for some text before jumping to 1980x1050.
