OK I did some more testing (sorry, first bug I ever report)

Case 1:
Solution as in bug 930896 : works
I implemented it not directly via iptables but chose the way recommended via
SUSEfirewall2

Case 2:
Solution as above: modprobe nf_conntrack_pptp: works
Obviously I didn't adopt the firewall settings for ESP as described in bug
930896

It goes without saying that I cannot connect without applying one of the 2
solutions.

Conclusion with my limited knowledge: Both solutions seem to work
independently.
