The current mysql-community-server package version 5.6.36-24.3.3 set wrong directory access permission on /var/run/mysql (or /run/mysql). Because of that no application can connect to the mysql server through sockets. After installation (or at least reboot) the directory get following permissions: drwx------ 2 mysql mysql 60 May 11 18:55 mysql But to access the socket file the directory permissons should be: drwxr-xr-x 2 mysql mysql 60 May 11 18:55 mysql With mysql-community-server package version 5.6.35-22.1 that works fine. Working package details: Repository : openSUSE-42.2-Update Name : mysql-community-server Version : 5.6.35-22.1 Arch : x86_64 Vendor : openSUSE NOT working package details: Repository : openSUSE-Leap-42.2-Update Name : mysql-community-server Version : 5.6.36-24.3.3 Arch : x86_64 Vendor : openSUSE Whether the problem also 32 bit versions concerns, I do not know.
