Roll-back did not resolve the issue. However I subsequently shutdown the system
and isolated it from the mains power for 30 seconds (allowing capacitors to
drain); following the subsequent reboot the sound started working again.

I would conclude that the Tumbleweed update to 20220128 somehow left the
built-in audio system in an undefined state which stopped it from working. The
complete power-down cleared this state, after which everything worked again.

Have moved the status of this to RESOLVED/INVALID based on the above.
