I discovered something new regarding the crashes. I am actually able to interact with the desktop even though the screen freezes. If a video is playing, I am still able to stop and play the video with my mouse. The cursor still changes shape when it hovers over the position of where the play button should be on YouTube. If left for too long in this state without rebooting, the entire screen will turn itself off.
