Then please tell me what I have to do to reproduce it. BTW, you seem to use old sntp syntax in comment 0. Unfortunately between 4.2.6 and 4.2.8 upstream changed the switch for "step" from -s to -S, and even worse, -s now means "slew". Additionally a -c switch was added (and is now used by the ntp start script), which causes sntp to query the IPs of the given host(s) concurrently and exit on the first response. So, if you want to reproduce a sntp hang in the start script that you think is caused by sntp, you have to use "sntp -S -c ntp1".
