Having restored the original link by:

  ln -sf luahbtex /usr/bin/lualatex

  ll /usr/bin/lualatex
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Sep 27 11:27 /usr/bin/lualatex -> luahbtex

and executing:
  fmtutil-sys --refresh

Unfortunately the error persists:

> LC_ALL=C lualatex sram-for-u2connect.tex 
This is LuaHBTeX, Version 1.12.0 (TeX Live 2020/TeX Live for SUSE Linux) 
 restricted system commands enabled.
