I also have a Dell XPS 15 (9560, BIOS 1.5.0), and was having similar sound issues. @Takashi Iwai, I tried the probe_mask=0x01 setting you suggested and rebooted. I now have normal audio behavior; speakers and headphones work, including volume controls (in alsamixer and KDE's mixer). I'll paste my current modprobe settings at the bottom of this comment, in case it's helpful to someone else. Although the problem is resolved for me, I'm happy to provide additional system info if it's helpful.
