Yes, I'm using XFCE.
thermald is installed but apparently not running (doesn't occur in 'ps' output)
upowerd is indeed running
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor is set to 'powersave',
not matter if the laptop runs powered or on battery.
