PS: another thing I would try is disabling compositing ("Configure
Desktop"/"System Settings"->Display and Monitor->Compositor, or just press
Shift+Alt+F12 to disable it temporarily) and see whether the problem still
occurs.
It may be related to the graphics driver or KDE's use of it.
That's just guessing though.
