(sorry for delay). There was a problem with the kernel in 13.2 which would cause mounts to sometimes hang if gssd wasn't running. This has since been fixed but the fixes wasn't entirely straight forward and back porting could easily have gone wrong. So it was easiest just to leave it always running rpc.gssd, even if not needed. The only negative of that is the error messages. You could try editing /etc/init.d/nfs and change NEED_GSSD=yes to NEED_GSSD=no. That should stop it from running. If nfs mounts still hang, you'll have to change it back. If not, you should be safe. I'm sorry there isn't much else I can do.
